Birth of Chain Saw Chain Damascus Knife

The chain is welded to a handle and placed in the coal fire and heated to a cherry red heat. It is then brought out and hammered to stiffen the links and folded lengthwise to get the end weld at the handle end. This is done so there is no contamination in the welded chain.
It is reheated to a bright red, brushed, flux sprinkled over the chain and reinserted into the fire.
It is then taken up to a welding heat, taken out, and then hammered welded.
This process is repeated until I am sure the entire billet is completely welded solid.
The hammer shaping is accomplished on the anvil in the third picture from the left.
The end result is the finished blade with a Mokume bolster less the handle material.
This process takes approximately 6 to 16 hours depending on the size and shape of the blade.
